    Improving Your Glicko Rating

Glicko ratings track your skill level dynamically and help you compete on our global leaderboards. Understanding the system is the first step to improving your rank.

    Improving Your Glicko Rating

    Understanding Glicko System Mechanics

Unlike traditional rating systems like Elo, Glicko calculates both your skill rating and a Rating Deviation (RD), which measures the system's uncertainty about your skill. When you don't play for a while, your RD increases, reflecting higher uncertainty. When you play frequently, your RD decreases, indicating the system is more confident in your actual skill level.

    Playing Against Varied Opponents

To climb the leaderboard efficiently, challenge players whose skills are established. Defeating a player with a low rating deviation (very active) will result in a larger rating increase than defeating a player with high uncertainty. Similarly, losing to a highly rated player has less impact on your rating than losing to a lower-rated player.

    Managing Rating Deviation (RD)

Consistency is key to protecting your rating. Playing games regularly keeps your Rating Deviation low, which stabilizes your rating. If you stop playing, your rating doesn't change, but your RD increases, making your next few games result in much larger rating swings.

    Strategies to Improve Your Play

Focus on learning and understanding patterns rather than guessing randomly. In music and geography games, study era and regional markers. In logic and number games, apply systematic elimination. The better your underlying knowledge, the more games you will win, leading to a steady and sustainable Glicko rating increase.
